Local Heroes Program
The Local Heroes Program seeks to recognize those Virginia Beach educators, first responders, and local military service members who provide exemplary service to their community through their professions. Our goal is to provide opportunities for local families to see a performance by one of our Resident Companies (subject to availability).
Local Heroes is a program designed and funded by the Sandler Center Foundation. Since its inception in 2015, we have provided attendance funding to over hundreds of Local Heroes and their families who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to attend a performance at the Sandler Center.
What some of our Local Heroes have said about their experience with the program:
“We had a wonderful evening! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The show was great and brought back some fun memories. I can’t thank you all enough!”
“We were able to attend the ballet, and we all loved it! My 9 year-old daughter even made it through the show, which was great to see. Thank you so much for enriching her learning and our lives by providing a means by which we were able to attend the show. May God bless you for all of your kindness.”
“We loved the concert!! Never heard a counter tenor before. Wow, that young man can sing!!!! Best performance of Tchaikovsky No. 5 we’ve ever heard!! Thank you so much for the great seats!!”
