In my last blog post, I talked about the difference between charity and philanthropy. You may read it by clicking HERE.
A quick recap: a charity solves more immediate needs while philanthropy seeks to promote a positive change over the long term.
You may be asking, “So, what does this mean at SCF?”
For example, instead of sending one child to go see a performance, we are interested in creating a potential pathway beginning as early as 2nd grade for a talented child to grow into adulthood and ultimately pursue a career in the arts.
Don't forget - someone needs to have the talent and skills to perform on that stage in 15 years! We are the inception.
Similarly, we seek to show the incredible power of the arts by working with other arts organizations and community partners to help them become stronger at what they do.
We may not necessarily be artists (although many of us are!) but we are experts in developing and strengthening organizations supporting the arts. This is not a brag, rather our Board and Team are carefully constructed to make sure people who work with us are experts in their field. They share one common element: a passion for our mission. We are grateful they choose to apply their skills, expansive knowledge, time, and energy to everything SCF does. No one sits on the SCF Board or Team to build their resume. They’ve already built it.
The thing about experts, though, is they know they aren’t experts at everything. They constantly seek answers. They ask questions. They look to grow and learn more. They/we enjoy working with our partners to help them become stronger and more effective organizations. Together, we make a stronger contribution to our community.
Together, we are all philanthropists.
