Sandler Center Foundation Receives $10k Grant

~Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation ArtStars Recipient~

February 13th, 2018- Virginia Beach
The Sandler Center Foundation was awarded a $10,000 ArtStars grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation during the 2018 Virginia Commission for the Arts 50th Anniversary Program held January 31, 2018 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. This grant recognizes the Sandler Foundation for bringing outstanding arts and cultural education into K-12 schools. Art180, Light House Studio, Signature Theatre, and Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail were also ArtStars grant recipients.

“ArtStars allows us to acknowledge the important efforts of smaller, community-based arts organizations to inspire young people and enliven communities with art, song, dance, theater and more,” said Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation.

“We are grateful to the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, not only for its very generous grant, but for its recognition of the Sandler Center Foundation’s efforts to enrich our community, inspire our youth and instill appreciation of the arts into future generations through the underwriting of world-class performing arts programming and performances,” said Lisa Baehre, Executive Director of the Sandler Center Foundation. “We applaud the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for its understanding and vital support of the Arts’ role in education. Horizons are broadened, lives are enriched, and communities thrive, due largely to the efforts of dedicated partners like Dominion Energy.”

Driven by a passion to reach students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience great works of music, dance and theatre, the Sandler Center Foundation has developed education programs which serve 15,000 students annually and provides attendance funding for 80% of them.

The Sandler Center Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization with a mission to educate, inspire creativity, broaden horizons, build community, enrich lives, increase understanding and acceptance through intercultural exchange, improve our local economy, strengthen our local arts organizations and instill appreciation of the arts to future generations through the underwriting of world-class performing arts programming and performances.
